Nelson Mandela wrote a will on a single sheet of A4 paper stating where he wishes to be buried

Nelson Mandela wrote a will on a single sheet of A4 paper in which he asked to be buried on a remote hillside in his ancestral home of Qunu, it has emerged.
The former South African president, 94, remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital in Pretoria where he has spent the last 21 days being treated for a lung infection.
In January 1996, while still serving as president, Mr Mandela reportedly drew up a rudimentary will in which he asked for a simple burial close to the village where he grew up on the Eastern cape.

He said that while he would be happy with a state memorial service in Pretoria he wanted to buried in the family plot with just a simple headstone to mark the site of his grave.
The South African Mail and Guardian reported a long-standing family friend as saying: ‘He never gave death a great deal of thought, but he never wanted anything fancy’.
Despite the fact that sales of Mr Mandela’s book Long Walk To Freedom, and artworks bearing his name, had earned him millions in royalties his will was reportedly presented on a single sheet of A4 paper.

According to South Africa’s national broadcaster SABC, the question of Mr Mandela’s final resting place has this week sparked a bitter family feud.
Mr Mandela’s oldest daughter, Makaziwe, and 15 other family members have pressed a court application to get Mr Mandela’s grandson to return the bodies of three of Mr Mandela’s children to their original graves in Qunu.
The grandson, Mandla Mandela, acknowledges having reburied the three bodies 13 miles away in the Mvezo village, where he plans to create a Mandela shrine, hotel and football stadium.
Mandla Mandela has until tomorrow to respond to the court filing, reports said.

Nelson Mandela built his retirement home in Qunu and was living there until his repeated hospital stays which started at the end of last year.
The anti-apartheid leader attended the burial of his son at the family plot in Qunu in 2005, and it was widely expected that the leader himself will be buried there.
But his grandson exhumed the bodies of Mr Mandela’s three children and moved them to nearby Mvezo, which is the former president’s birthplace and the grandson holds authority as chief.
Eldest daughter Makaziwe and other Mandela family members want the family bodies returned to their original graves in Qunu, according to the reports.

‘Out of deference to Nelson Mandela’s peace and comfort and the family’s wishes, they will not be visiting the hospital,’ the White House added in a statement.
Yesterday Mr Mandela ex-wife said his condition had improved.
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela told reporters: ‘I’m not a doctor but I can say that from what he was a few days ago there is great improvement’.
Ms Madikizela-Mandela pleaded with the media to ‘understand the sensitivities and the feeling of the family’

2015: I Could Be PDP Presidential Flag Bearer – Lamido

Sule-LamidoMuch touted presidential hopeful and Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has declared that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is a large party and anyone of its members can become President in 2015.
Lamido, who is widely believed to be nursing a presidential ambition in 2015, was speaking in an interview with Channels Television where he narrated his chances of clinching the PDP ticket for the forthcoming general elections.
He said, “Anybody in the PDP can become the President,” adding that “It can be me; it can be Jonathan or anybody”.
Lamido, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, also restated his firm belief in the democratic tenets of nomination just as he said it will be selfish and arrogant of him if he declares such an ambition without the essential nomination by his people.

The reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will cost the Federal Government N160.7bn.
This figure was disclosed to our correspondent by the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, in an exclusive interview in Abuja on Tuesday.
Okupe said the road would consist of three lanes on either side from Lagos up to the Sagamu interchange, and two lanes from there up to Ibadan.
He also said that there would be a flyover and inter-change at the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to solve the traffic gridlock on that portion of the road.
Okupe said, “The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was awarded on Monday at a total cost of N160.7bn.
“The multi-lane road project, which will be handled by Julius Berger Construction Company and the RCC, will consist of three lanes on either side up to Sagamu junction, and two lanes up to Ibadan as well as a flyover and inter-change at the Redemption Camp to solve the perennial traffic gridlock on that portion of the road.”
He promised that the Federal Government would pay attention to the road, which he described as major.
Okupe also said the contractors had started mobilising to the site, adding that the government was determined to solve the crises on the road once and for all.
“Government is serious on infrastructure. You can see that major roads like the Kano-Maiduguri, Benin-Ore, Abuja-Lokoja, Owerri-Onitsha, Katsina-Daura and East-West roads and many others are being rehabilitated or reconstructed. The second Niger Bridge has been given out on concession and work is in steady progress,” the presidential aid said.
It will be recalled that the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, told journalists on Monday that the contract for the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway had been awarded to Julius Berger and RCC.
He, however, did not disclose the cost of the project.
Like the minister, Okupe also did not disclose the duration of the project.

Over 30 Killed In Plateau, While Jang Struggles For NGF Power In Abuja

Over 30 Killed In Plateau, While Jang Struggles For NGF Power In Abuja

Gov. Jonah Jang
By SaharaReporters, New York
While Governor Jonah Jang is in Abuja struggling for leadership of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), more than 30 people have been killed this week in the Langtang area in a new wave of attacks by Fulani gunmen.
Humanitarian workers in the area told SaharaReporters that the attacks have been on since Tuesday in Karkashi, Magama and Bolgan of Langtang South local government area with headquarters in Mabudi.  The area is said to be the resettlement ground for veterans of the Second World War.  It is also the home of Taroh, Ngas, Kwallah, Youm, Montol, Goemai, and Mwaghavul ethnic groups who are the targets of Fulani gunmen.
The humanitarian workers said that houses and food barns have been burnt to ashes in the attacks, while the seriously injured were rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital and other nearby hospitals.
The attacks have come as Governor Jang remained in Abuja playing President Goodluck Jonathan’s stooge in his political feud with Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, jostling over his illegitimate claim to being chairman of the NGF.  Jang was defeated in the election to that position by 19 votes to 16 but with Mr. Jonathan’s support, has continued to pose as chairman.
Last year, Gen. Jeremiah Useni, who is from Langtang, accused Jang of being problem of the state, saying, “The state governor, Jonah Jang, is not doing anything to allay the fears of every citizens in the state. Some feel marginalized; some are called all sorts of names.  The problem is the Constitution giving all the powers to one man who refuses to cooperate; there is nothing we can do. He is not relating to people, the Berom themselves are divided—we have the Du versus other Beroms. Then you have the non-Beroms including Hausa-Fulani and ourselves, we are not Beroms.  One expects that as a governor of a state, everyone should be yours irrespective of tribe and other affiliations because everyone voted for you. So you cannot be a Berom governor or Hausa governor, everybody must be treated equally, failure to do that is inviting anarchy.
Useni lamented that civil servants were not being paid, pointing out that even in the local government administrations, some workers were being owed as much as four months and when they were paid, were given only half their salaries.
“Jang is not capable of running the state unless he changes his heart,” Useni said. “Don’t forget that there was a time the state was in turmoil for eight days. He was in India, sitting down there. He didn’t rush down and there have been many cases like that. When you advise him, he doesn’t listen to advice and when he was asked why he doesn’t take advice, he said he doesn’t have to take advice from anybody. How do you expect a governor to say that? Who doesn’t take advice, no matter how wise or clever you are? Even (the Biblical) King Solomon used to take advice.”
